On and off I've been reading and telling English stories to very young
children for almost 3 decades. And all the time I encourage the parents I
know to read English stories with zero translation. This is a rule, a must!
To help kids understand English stories, you parents can take advantage of
those breath-taking, eye-opening pictures, plus your body language,
gestures, facial expressions, intonation, voice, and recasting technique
...
In fact, only dinosaurs read English stories bilingually. If you do that, you are planting a very bad and stubborn
habit into your innocent and language-talented young children, which may
get stuck with them a lifetime. It's not easy to kick it, shake it off!!!
Without some parents' misleading or stupidity, it's possible that all kids may
blossom into lifelong passionate English readers, and grow into adults
who can naturally think in English when needed. I'm confident that the
kids, who listened to English-only stories at the most early stage of
their life, can flower into first-class interpreters, translators, great
English writers, or major leaders in cross-cultural communication.
Most importantly, each and every of these kids can develop into an out-of-the-box thinker. That's my personal guarantee!
Likewise, in this challenging and exciting process of sticking to English-only
story-reading-and-telling, you parents will get your own horizons
stretched.
