Toastmaster Club Speech P4-2 Early to bed, early to rise

Dear fellow toastmasters, good evening, How was your day today? I know that most of you come to join the meeting after a whole day work, do you feel tired? Please join me and give a big applause to ourselves for our hard work and enthusiasm to improve, After the meeting, when I drive back home, I just feel that I am falling asleep. I have to play some heavy rock music to wake myself up. Although I am so tired, when I go back home, I still have to take care of my son, and finish a hard day. The worst part is I don't have my personal time. Every night, I struggled to sleep, and treasure the time at the late night, and struggled to get up and feeling tired. Also I found that lots of people have the same issue due to different reasons.  Alright,  a quick survey here, Percy, when did you sleep last night? How about you  did you go to bed late? if you go to sleep after 11:00pm, raise your hands please, how about after12:00PM? From the chart we can figure out some reasons, almost 90% OF people will go to sleep after 11PM, struggle to get up in the morning and feel tired, it is an unhealthy cycle. I was wondering how to manage my time more effectively in a healthy way. How to earn more time for myself?

To resolve this issue, I join a we chat group called "Early hours", So that you can see I clock in in my we chat moments and share with you my early hours activities, like go hiking, running. Although it is not easy at all, first day when my alarm clock rings, I feel like I want to throw it out of the window, and say hello to the world. Day after days, I felt better and better, sometimes 5:40, after a quick breakfast, I will quick walk for 30 mins to stretch myself out and go back home, read a book for an hour, at least I earn 2 hours for myself completely, it felt like I earn 1 billion every day, I felt happier than before. 21 days past, I transformed myself from a sleepy head to a person who get up early and do morning exercise and reading every day. It is amazing!

To sum up the benefits for early to bed and early to rise below.

  1. Manage your time more effectively

Every early morning, especially these 2 weeks, I am preparing my speeches, so that I use the morning time to practice and work out the draft. When I go hiking, I can practice my speech loudly. No need to worry about bothering someone else. And I got more inspirational ideas in the morning for my speeches after the good sleep.

  1. Healthy way to live

People all pursue a happy and healthy life, but most of us were living an unhealthy life with a cup of wolfberry tea. When you sleep earlier and get up earlier, you will feel more energetic for the whole day work, your body was in a good shape and ready to take more challenges in your daily work.

  1. Relieve anxiety

People feel anxious very frequently, when you get up early, manage your time more effectively, if you make a to do list for daily work in the morning, you will feel more easy before go to office. As you already have your plan for the day.

  1. Enjoy your breakfast

In the old days,  I will get up at 8 pm in the morning, grab a pocket of milk and some breads then rush to my office. But now, I will spend 10 mins to cook myself a cup of handmade milk tea and enjoy my breakfast with a book and music, it is totally different, and you will find more simple pleasures to start your day.

I know I know, so far maybe you still feel that, that is your story, not mine, I don't buy in, I can't get up earlier in the morning, it will kill me. I know that feeling, I know, because I was in the same situation as you before. But I lean in and try to change my life to a more healthy way. Don’t worry, next, I will tell you how to do that! And it is not difficult.

  1. Put down your cell phone before go to sleep

Cell phone is the biggest enemy in our daily life, do you agree, it steal our family and sleep time, even our health, so try to put down your cell phone 15 mins ago before your go to sleep, and create the atmosphere for sleep. Trust me, you are not the superman so you don't have to turn on your cell phone 24*7, you don't have to save the world, be good to yourself.

  1. To do list

It is hard to fell asleep when you have lots of thoughts in your mind, here I have a good way to get rid of this is to prepare a to do list every day before you go to bed, so that you won't feel that you mind are occupied by different thoughts, you can try below example, do follow the list. Then you will be very clear what you need to do next, and feel release to go to sleep.

  1. Sleep monitor

If you use android phone, you can try Snail sleep monitor, if you use apple, you can try autosleep. Or snail sleep in your cell phone, before you go to sleep around 15 mins ago, you should turn on your sleep monitor, you can set up your routine sleep cycle and monitor your sleep quality, the monitor will alarm you next morning and wake you up on time; also it will record your talk or snore during the night.

  1. Build up a team to urge each other

There is a good quote" if you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go with the others." So, if you determined to achieve your goal, build up a small group and encourage each other every day to achieve your goal!

So today, I told you guys a story of my early hours, and introduce to you guys the benefits of get up earlier, and how to do it. So I would like to know how many of you will consider trying to get up earlier recently? Please raise your hands. The famous basketball player Kobe still wakes up before the sun to go to the gym at 4 a.m. Try to take action and change your life by changing your habits. All things are difficult before they are easy, so, if you agreed with me, at least, give yourself a shot and your life will be changed completed!

控場還行,我也爭取更好的利用舞臺(tái),調(diào)動(dòng)觀眾的氣氛,先在最開場的時(shí)候甩出去一個(gè)問題,讓大家去思考大家睡覺的時(shí)間。雖然還是會(huì)有腦子亂轉(zhuǎn)非常快的時(shí)候,但是控制的還可以,及時(shí)的回到正軌。第一次12分鐘的演講,5分鐘的Q&A.雖然跟平時(shí)的講課還差的不是一點(diǎn)半點(diǎn),但是我覺得演講還是比培訓(xùn)要更難把控,因?yàn)槟悴恢滥闩_(tái)下來的觀眾都是什么口味,培訓(xùn)你知道知道你的固定聽眾,可以根據(jù)他們來安排你的boom的部分。Cathy給我的評(píng)價(jià)是,我要更好的利用emotional的部分,我覺得還得時(shí)間去摸索吧,在最近這么忙的情況下,這樣的表現(xiàn)給個(gè)70分,得了best speaker,還是很開心的。
